BOILER PLUS

One of the most significant announcements in the government’s Clean Growth strategy to achieve the UK’s carbon reduction targets is the setting of minimum efficiency standards, which have generally been referred to as Boiler Plus.

The scheme is designed to encourage energy efficiency by mandating requirements for heating systems, setting out expectations regarding what both manufacturers and installers must deliver.

How do you know if you’re Boiler Plus compliant?

Just watch out for the Boiler Plus logo on our websites and on our brochure and emails.

Boiler Plus

What does Boiler Plus mean when installing Honeywell Heating Controls?

Installing Gas System Boilers

(typically controlling heating and stored hot water)

You need to install a gas boiler with a minimum 92% ERP boiler classification. The controls used with this boiler MUST provide time AND temperature control (usually termed Boiler Interlock).

ALL Honeywell timers and programmers that are combined with room thermostats or programmable thermostats provide boiler interlock and are Boiler Plus Compliant when used wth system boilers. Compliant Heating Controls for use with combi boilers are detailed below

Installing Combination Boilers

You need to install a gas combi boiler with a minimum 92% ERP boiler classification. You then need to install  controls that provide boiler interlock. Additionally, the heating system must have one of four additional energy efficiency measures, these are:

  • Flue Gas Heat Recovery systems
  • Weather Compensation
  • Load Compensation
  • Smart Controls featuring automation and optimisation functions

Note: installing Flue Gas Heat Recovery and Weather Compensation devices will not comply with building regulations UNLESS time and temperature control is also installed.

The following Honeywell Programmable Thermostats and multi-zone controls are Boiler Plus Compliant.

The following Honeywell heating controls are Boiler Plus compliant when used with a combi boiler, qualifying either under the Load Compensation section (when used with the appropriate OpenTherm boiler) or as a 'Smart Thermostat' providing automation and optimisation features.

Upgrading an existing system? Is there a programmer in place?

Simply replace the programmer (and exisiting room thermostat) with a Sundial RF² wireless enabled programmer and the RF² thermostat(s) work with no extra cables, no binding and no mess or disruption.
